The Heidelberg Catechism opens on a note that is a bit of a downer. You see there is the message that we are those who naturally hate God and our neighbor. When we hear such strong statements we might be tempted to give up in our Christian life. You see we are just sinful anyway so why not just live in sin? Why should we want to continue to conform to the Lord if we naturally hate the Lord? What is our ultimate motivation to conform to the Lord? Did the Lord make us this way?
