From Beaten to Beautiful (Isaiah 54:11-17)

Scripture: Isaiah 54:11-17

Living life as a sinner in a fallen, dark world can get pretty despairing and ugly. The Gospel holds out to us the prospect that
God has plans to turn our ugly duckling lives into something dazzling, akin to to a bright light shining through a spectrum of
beautiful gems. Sound too good to be true? Isaiah wants us to understand that “this is the heritage of God’s children”.
And though our unrighteousness has rendered us “afflicted, storm-tossed, and uncomforted” God Himself will provide the
secure and safe grounds to enter this new shining city by a righteousness that He Himself supplies, the righteousness through faith in Christ.
Unlike our own, this righteousness renders certain the transition from perishable tents in this world to the jeweled city-bride in the world to come.
So let’s get our eyes off of ourselves and this world below, and lift them up to Christ, who is our righteousness and life, seated in the light of glory.

Scripture Reading:

Isaiah 54:11-17 King James Version (KJV)

11 O thou afflicted, tossed with tempest, and not comforted, behold, I will lay thy stones with fair colours, and lay thy foundations with sapphires.

12 And I will make thy windows of agates, and thy gates of carbuncles, and all thy borders of pleasant stones.

13 And all thy children shall be taught of the Lord; and great shall be the peace of thy children.

14 In righteousness shalt thou be established: thou shalt be far from oppression; for thou shalt not fear: and from terror; for it shall not come near thee.

15 Behold, they shall surely gather together, but not by me: whosoever shall gather together against thee shall fall for thy sake.

16 Behold, I have created the smith that bloweth the coals in the fire, and that bringeth forth an instrument for his work; and I have created the waster to destroy.

17 No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord.
