How is the Heinous Symbol of the Cross Our Symbol?

The picture above is from the Philippines where the people reenact the cross bearing action of Christ. When we read the gospel accounts it seems like this is what Christian are to do because Christ does say that we are to bear our cross. Is there a literal cross that the Christian must bear or is this a metaphor for the Christian life? This is the question that we are going to take up this evening at the women's study. If are you interested in attending the study it is open invitation and we would love to have you come. I just ask that you be familiar with the following passages: Leviticus 19, Luke 9:23-27, Galatians 6:1-5, and Romans 7.
